Baptism is one of two ordinances the Lord commanded us to do. The other is the Lord’s Table (communion – Matthew 26:26-30; 1 Corinthians 11: 23-25). Both are symbolic of, and focus our attention on a particular part of spiritual truth the Lord considers to be vital for us to understand and follow in obedience.
Water baptism is a public statement by you of your confession and repentance from sin.
Water baptism relates to a believer’s identification with Christ: it is an expression of faith in what God did when you were united with Christ. According to the scriptures you were united with Him in His death, burial, and resurrection to life. It is the outward confirmation of the spiritual reality.
Since the Lord unites us to Him so that we will walk in newness of life, water baptism is also a public commitment to leave your old life behind and to live your life for God. Since repentance implies living a life characterized by obedience to God this should be clear.
We typically have two baptism services per year.
Membership at Solid Rock Bible Church is an opportunity to be more connected to our church family. Church membership is never mentioned in Scripture, but being part of a local body of believers is the regular pattern of community. The church is the Bride of Christ and we are to be “in Christ”, therefore it makes sense that we be “in church”.
Membership classes are held twice a year (spring and fall).
In this three hour class, topics discussed:
• Our Constitution and Statement of Faith
• What is Solid Rock?
• What is Salvation?
• Church Purpose Statement
• Our Ministries at Solid Rock Bible Church
